2010 Art Camp

June 21–25

Art Camp with palette

Redeemer’s Art Camp for students in grades 1–7 is coming again! This year camp will be held the week of June 21–25, and our theme will be “Rhythm and Blues.” This theme will not only open up musical possibilities related to dance and the use of rhythm instruments; it will also allow us to explore visual expressions of the color blue, meaning of course that we can go from the depths of the sea to the outer reaches of the universe for ideas and inspiration.

As in past years we will offer children opportunities to express themselves through dance, music and the visual arts. As always we will have people working with the children who are not only experts in their field, but also experts with children. Returning this year will be Wendy Libby as visual arts teacher, Barbie Yurick as dance teacher, and Pastor Elaine and Pastor Renée as all around “chief cook and bottle washers.” Redeemer’s new music director, Michelle Dokka, will lead the campers in music, and many of our same shepherds and teen helpers will be accompanying the campers through the day.

We do want you to know now that we are raising the registration fee for art camp to $75.00 for the week, as it is the only way we can make ends meet. The family rate (3 children or more) is $200.00. If you need a scholarship there are some available. Please call Redeemer for more information.

Please call the church office for registration materials (945-3166). We look forward to seeing you!

2009 ELCA Youth Gathering

July 22–26, New Orleans

Jesus–Justice–Jazz

The youth group at Redeemer has been busy this fall and winter, and as spring nears, we’re working hard to plan fun events for all and fund-raising events to send a group to New Orleans in July for the ELCA National Youth Gathering. We have a group of young people at Redeemer with many gifts and talents, and we are so grateful for the youth and parents who are able to participate!

Seven youths and three adults will go to New Orleans for a week late in July this summer. The ELCA’s tri-annual youth convention brings together high-school-aged teens from the 50 U.S. states in one location for praise and worship, education, eye-opening stories, and service. The last two trips were San Antonio (three years ago) and Atlanta (six years ago).

We’re excited to send a group this year for a more focused service week in New Orleans where our young people will learn more about what it means to be stewards and to use our hands to help others in rebuilding in the aftermath of hurricanes which destroyed structures and changed people’s lives in the Gulf coast in August 2004.

The fund-raising efforts include an on-going bottle drive (anyone may contribute cans/bottles toward our fund by delivering directly to Broadway Redemption Center or simply leave cans/bottles in bags in the entry-way at church).

We prepare with glad hearts for a trip to serve others in need and to learn more about the factors with which people live in poverty and disaster-torn areas. Several Bible study sessions are planned as we read and reflect on what it means to be Christian examples and to struggle with difficult topics.
