Document Help

Sermons and The Caller newsletter are posted on the Redeemer site in the form of DjVu documents. Unlike the more familiar web pages in HTML form, these cannot be viewed directly until you give your viewing software a little boost. Fortunately, this only needs to be done once, and should be fairly painless. The benefits include:

For those not born breathing bits, here is a little more guidance. (Read, then do!)

  1. The DjVu resource site lists several available software downloads. Most people can go directly to the first option, to get the Lizardtech DjVu browser plugin.
  2. Select your operating system from the options given. If that is Windows (whether XP or Vista or other), then you will be given a choice of ways to install.
  3. If you are using Internet Explorer under Windows, you can use the auto-install option. Or you can select “English” as the language under Option 2 and then “Go”.
  4. Assuming you are not using auto-install, you will now be asked to download “DJVUCNTL_61_EN.EXE” (or whatever the current version is). Save the file somewhere you can find it.
  5. Exit your web browser. Go to where you saved the installer, and click on it to run it. Choose options you like; defaults are usually fine.
  6. Restart your web browser and enjoy!

DjVu format is free, open, and highly efficient to store and browse. All major operating systems (Windows XP, Mac OS X, Linux, …) and browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, …) are supported with both browser plugins and stand-alone readers. It has been put to good use by major archive sites like the Internet Archive, and by government organizations like the U.S. National Park Service. We think you’ll like it.

If you need further help in viewing DjVu documents, or if you would like any or all of the documents in another format, please email the webmaster, Chris Kreider.
